SMARTLAND selected for “New energy for the landscape"

For the Open Call of the Creative Industries Fund NL “New energy for the landscape”, SMARTLAND has submitted a proposal for the Implementation of Wet Energy cultivation to conserve peat-meadow landscape in the Green Heart. Energy-crops in this case, in the form of bullrush cultivation. It not only provides efficient bio-energy, it also contributes to stopping the oxidation of peat, reducing CO2 emissions, inhibiting soil decline, and thereby maintaining and strengthening the historic peatland landscape. In particular, an implementation strategy has been proposed, and will be further developed with partners, to enhance the transition to a truly sustainable use of the (wet) peat landscape 'bottom-up'.
