The municipality of Eindhoven aims to become an energy-neutral city by 2035-2045. Under the banner of "!mpuls Smart Greening Municipal Real Estate," seven buildings will be made more sustainable over the next ten years. Eindhoven has also been selected as a European model city for the application of nature-based solutions. The focus is on climate adaptation, combating urban heat stress and flooding, and enhancing the amenity of nature and biodiversity in the city.
Smartland worked on the following subprojects:
The redesign of the roofscape of City Hall and the greenery and water management in the immediate vicinity, including the construction of wadis in the former Dommel Garden and a memorial area for veterans.
The green transformation of the former NRE gasworks site, replacing paved areas with greenery and adding a green facade, which will improve the working environment and microclimate in the surrounding area.
The greening of the Mercado building, making it more sustainable with shared roof gardens, green facades, and green PV roofs. Green walls and spaces within the building further contribute to a healthier indoor climate and improved acoustics. This holistic approach emphasizes the integration of sustainability and greenery to improve the quality of work, living, and overall health of civil servants in Eindhoven.
