Green roof Mercado

The Mercado building in Eindhoven has undergone a significant sustainability upgrade: the Eindhoven municipality office now proudly bears an A++++ energy label. In addition to these major improvements, we are equally pleased with smaller, circular measures, such as repairs with 3D-printed floor sockets and the reuse of air ducts. With these targeted, "acupuncture-like" interventions, we are creating a healthier workplace that offers space for connection and "off" spaces where people can truly switch off.

Research shows that calming spaces are essential in any workplace, as they help people relax and reduce stress. One of Mercado's key "off" spaces is a rooftop garden, designed for animals, plants, and people - a green space for both gathering and relaxation. A vertical green wall at the heart of the building fulfills a similar role.

The rooftop garden we designed also serves as an ecological springboard within the city's green network. In this way, the municipality is leading by example, and we hope to stimulate the growth of a connected rooftop landscape together with neighboring building owners.
