Inspiration book nature-inclusive public space ArenAPoort

The ArenAPoort area is an intensively used area with high peak traffic around the Johan Cruijff ArenA and the Ziggo Dome. The immediate vicinity of Bijlmer ArenA station has few green spaces, in stark contrast to the many green spaces found further away in the district.

Smartland conducted extensive research into the current structures and problems related to green space and biodiversity. This revealed that there is not only a lack of green space and biodiversity, but also problems related to water and heat stress. The information obtained from this study was compiled into a map atlas for the ArenApoort area.

In response to these challenges, Smartland developed a spatial vision that contains a toolbox of different solutions that can contribute to green space and biodiversity, reduce heat stress and improve rainwater absorption.

The solutions in the toolkit are not stand-alone elements, but can be combined to create powerful spatial carriers that can be implemented in public spaces. The map atlas and toolkit were combined into an inspiration book for the municipality of Amsterdam to achieve an inclusive result for the ArenAPoort. The Amsterdam municipality received the inspiration book positively.
